What time should he roughly be going to bed at night? How many hours should they be sleeping for a night?

There are no strict rules regarding bedtimes and it does depend on what suits the circumstances of the individual family, and factors such as what time the toddler finished his afternoon nap. Generally, however, toddlers will wake early in the morning regardless of what time they went to bed. Studies also show that children receive their deepest sleep before midnight, and for this reason children generally do best when they have a reasonably early bedtime of sometime between 6.30pm - 8pm. A child of 21 months old will still do best with a day sleep. Toddlers between 1-2 years usually require between 12 - 14 hours of sleep in a 24 hour period. This is often a night sleep of around 11 - 12 hours and then a daytime sleep as well of around 2 hours. You may find the following chart helpful:
